that long away? or is it just hard to see into where she will nest?

Early July possibly. Eggs are incubated for about 38 days and chicks fledge at around 6 weeks.
I won't be able to see into the nest hollow, they are usually several feet deep. Female will emerge from hollow after about 55 days. About a week after she emerges should start to be able to hear the chick(s) trilling.

That, sir, is an audible image that is both fascinating and terrifying... Does the owl wear a flying cap and goggles as well? :)

No, but they are definitely Dastardly. :-D

Hopefully this Dropbox link will work (recording I made last week)
There are a couple of barely audible hoots then Muttley at about 8 seconds in.

The female Powerful owl last night.

And a recording of her mate hooting (a not quite enthusiastic Homer Simpson 'Woo-hoo')

Female Powerful owl today. Below is her 'man of the day'. This is a different male than the one who has been with her the past couple of weeks. His beak is open as he is panting due to the heat. He spent a lot of time looking up and I suspect he's keeping a lookout for the male he chased off last night to swoop in and attack.

This male Barred Owl knows me quite well, we commune almost every day, and I'm often able to get quite close as he guards the nest. This was about 20 yards away and he was about 14 feet in the air. I cropped the closeup to emphasize the reflection of the clouds/sun in his eye. It really struck me. I thought a little post-crop vignetting on the full pic was in order, but maybe not.
