Hilarious, I have two nesting pair of Barred Owls in the 50 acre nature center right outside my back gate, they have also cost me thousands in new gear, LOL: 2 new camera bodies, 3 news lenses, new tripod, hehehe.

Jerry, how do you like your Tamron 150-600 2? I think that's the next lens I'll buy though the 1.4x gets me to 560 and seems to work pretty well on the 1D X2. I can take sharp pictures, as long as the light is reasonable, that I just can't get with my 300mm prime. I find myself alternating between the Tamron during the day and the 300mm when light conditions are deteriorating. Initial focus is maybe just a fraction slower than the 300 but once it's on the subject I get just as many keepers.

I would love a 200-400 w/1.4x.... but it's heavy.. and out of my price range at the moment. I can get pretty close to the birds here in Florida... well, the larger ones, so my 100-400ii works pretty well. Yes, I would love that lens too, but, and this is a big factor for me, at almost 3 lbs heavier and $9,400 more expensive, it's a show stopper for me on two points. I'm always on the move & I prefer to hand hold and the weight of this sucker would basically require a tripod for me. I can't move nearly as well and I haven't developed a technique shooting with a tripod that is effective, at least for me. I really like the extra reach I get with the 600mm with a lens I can hand hold.
