A pair of barred owls took up residence next door. They have been such a pleasure spotting and hearing. We also see they started a family too.

All taken with Canon 70D with 55-250mm lens. Some images are cropped.

Lucky to have a family of owls taking up the area nearly on my property. There is a family of 4, 2 of the owlets have been exploring but staying near the nest. In fact, last night it seems the 2 slept outside as they were in the same spot as yesterday evening. They are common in our state and where I live but neve had this kind of access as they are right next door. I keep a lot of distance and my time short taking pictures. Sometimes I have to fire the flash as they are deep in the pocket of shadows. They really seem unbothered by the presences of others.

One of the two barred owlets I was fortunate to see yesterday. The other owlet was larger and very high up in another tree, hard to see with all the leaf cover. One of the parents was hanging around close by.

These are the first owlets I’ve ever seen so I was pretty pumped. I haven’t spotted a single owl since late April when I was keeping an eye on an eastern screech-owl nest I had found. Unfortunately that nest was predated by raccoons and they didn’t re-nest in a box I put up close by, hopefully next year.

Yes. When I saw it I was rushing and worried that it may flew but luckily it stayed for like 2 minutes.
