How to tell if your in DPAF mode Vs Contrast Mode?

So using the center focusing mode... the metabones V and sigma 85 when you focus a tiny little dot within the center area mode brackets will focus. When using sony lenses just the whole square bracket lights up green.

I messed with the option on menue AF4 page 8 for phase detection area on/off but it doesn't make a difference. Not sure how I can tell if the sony glass is on contrast or dpaf.
