I sang in a medalist barbershop quartet several years back, 2007-2009. I hadn't broken out one of the medals in a while, and figured I'd play around a bit.
The quartet's signature and highest scoring song was Danny Boy.
I struggled with the composition as the pitch pipe is so white, it draws the eye. The back side is chrome so it reflects a ton; wish I had one of my old black ones. I also considered putting it partially out of composition.
I wanted side lighting to catch the texture of the paper, and some thicker weight paper would be an improvement I think. Also a bit more diffusion from the key might help. I wanted more drama, but the medal got so dark and illegible.
I could see spending more time on this with a little snooted spot on just the medal with a gobo'd side light streaking across the page. Amazing how much work goes into just an average shot. I had to pull up my old sheet music and redo the font type and size to something more elegant and legible.
Fun nonetheless. Good for a Facebook picture to all the barbershoppers.
