I only ran into Chuck Westfall briefly once at an expo booth, but for a couple of decades, Chuck was the public face of Canon USA. Chuck was available for questions on a couple of camera forums. He had a QA column on the old Digital Photojournalist website.

Chuck was the camera nerd who (with his staff) dug into every new Canon offering and wrung it out, telling the public everything they might want to know about the hardware.

Although he was faithful to Canon--he wasn't going to air any dirty laundry--if you read betwen his lines, you could sometimes detect that even he got frustrated with Canon Inc from time to time. He often didn't know what was coming out long before it was officially introduced, and Canon Inc didn't give him any more technical information than the user manuals...he had to wring out stuff himself.

But he was an accessible face and a voice for Canon USA, and he was unique in the industry in that role.
