Tamron 85 vs Sigma Art

Hi,

Anyone compared these two. I currently own the Art. But for a whole wedding day its f... heavy. So i think about a downgrade

And suggestions?

I haven't compared them. I've read an off-hand comment from one member a few months ago stating that the Tamron delivered better sharpness, out of focus blur and focussed better but then I haven't seen anything from anyone else to back up that single opinion (which may have been offered that day simply to wind up fans of the Sigma).

What I've read of the Tamron has only been positive. If you want the lower weight and VC, go for the Tamron. I doubt f/1.8 will be a limiting factor for weddings and I doubt any minute sharpness difference between the two will be noticeable to any of your customers. I wouldn't call it a downgrade

Hi I have not done a Tamron VS sigma test but I did just get the Tamron 85mm 1.8.
Here are some samples this is on a Nikon D7500.

I went with this due to it being lighter and smaller than the Sigma.

I have the Nikon 85 1.8G and the Tamron after a lens fine tune is much sharper and has better color and contrast then my Nikon.
My Nikon 85 has massive purple and green fringing I see in almost every set of photos I use it on. This was one of my main reasons for getting the Tamron. The Tamron is much better most of the time it shows none and when it does have some it is very little VS the Nikon.

On the downside, the VC on the Tamron does not work well at least on my cameras. I can see a lower quality image when the VC is on and many times it just messes up and the photo is not in focus at all or miss focused. This is shooting a non-moving subject.

With that said using it with the VC off produces amazing sharp good contrast images well worth it. In low light at low shutter speeds, the VC can work just take a few shots as one out of three will be sharper in focus than the other two. When it misses focus you should be able to see that.

With the VC on it is still more sharper than my Nikon 85

I recently got a Sigma Art to replace my 85/1.8G.

I'll start off by saying that I was never really happy with the way my Nikon performed. It wasn't helped that the first time it got used in anger I was also using my tried and trusty 35Art. The G just didn't focus as quickly, nor consistently accurately as I had hoped from a Nikon.

After getting the 85Art I ran a few test shots on the tripod and wide open the Sigma was better than the Nikon was at f/2.8. This was across the frame. The AF isn't super fast on the Sigma, but it's still nicely quicker than my 1.8G, and in limited testing the accuracy of Art has me satisfied with my purchase

I had a Tamron SP 85 1.8 Di VC lens for a while. It was an amazing lens, very very sharp. I haven't had the Sigma Art 85 but have at the Art 35, it was a very sharp lens as well.
I really liked the Tamron, the new series of lenses are very impressive.

Switching to a d750 and looking at these lenses do you think the Nikon 85 1.4g is worth the extra money over the Tamron or sigma?

Only if you want to have a Nikon lens over a third party lens. Seriously though the 1.4G only has a potential AF benefit over both and a 1.4 vs 1.8 benefit over the Tamron. Both of the latest Sigma and Tamron lenses match or better the Nikon for image quality and rendering
