Nice shots! So how do you find them?

thanks...mainly spent time looking at ebird, and inaturalist looking for spots where they were spotted nearby...if they had photos, then i would look for the same cavity...when i found it, i just waited...i could hear the owls calling back and forth to each other but couldn't see either...than after dusk, they came out

i think there may be another pair closer to my house, but it's in more of a residential neighborhood, and i feel a bit odd just wandering around there around dusk...so i'm hoping to borrow my friends dog, this way i don't look like a total nut

Thanks for the tips.

Me, I just look for small groups of people looking up. :)

Looking daft enough to stay well away from is one of the perks of nature photography! :)

thanks...definitely patience...the funny thing is these guys are right off a pretty heavily used trail...i overheard one of the hikers after they walked by me say "that guy has been staring at the whole for like an hour...somethings gotta be in there" this was before he popped up...i was starting to wonder if something really was in there...then they started calling to each other

here's a quick video of one calling to the other:
