Folks,

I have a bit of a query... I have been doing some research into a camera that shoots at higher ISO in lower light conditions then what I currently have - 7D/T3i. There are some in the Canon lineup that would suit me just fine but I am not necessarily willing to pay the price tag (1DX (II), 5DIV). I suppose I have narrowed things down to the 6D, 5DIII and 7DII. The 6D is closer to my T3i controls which is not something I like but I could get used to again. The other two line up perfectly with the 7D controls. The 6D bursting and focusing is perhaps less then what I may want while the other two I am certain could handle my needs. If I get a 7DII, I would supplant my current 7D and sell the T3i (no bearing on acquisition). If I got a 5DIII, I would probably still use my 7D for nature stuff to get the "extra" reach. Most of my lenses are not EF-S, so I could go either way.

I do have a flash and I am proficient in using it however, there are situations where the lighting conditions are poor and I cannot use a flash. Hence, the conundrum.

I am looking at indoor sports in terrible lighting or stage events in stage spot lighting. Perhaps even indoor family events where I have forgotten my flash or I don't want to be obtrusive. Faster glass is not necessarily the issue (more likely my skills are) since I have lenses between 1.4 and 2.8 that I can use but even at that aperture I am at 3200++ ISO with reasonable shutter speeds - neither of my cameras excel in this area. I, almost always, shoot ETTR but even with that it's hit and miss.

I know this is all about personal preference because the comparisons at high ISO for these cameras put them all to be pretty darn close. I am looking to get perhaps another stop or two (if possible) over what I have. Therefore, I consulting with the hive mind for your impressions regarding these three cameras and my issues.

Comments or thoughts are welcomed!

Thanks!

This site might make your decision easier:

Might take a little research to know which charts are most important for your needs.

Indeed, this is a big plus in many situations... I have seen many a picture of mine where half the picture is lit and the other isn't...

Thanks!

This is quite a nice shot however I wasn't really looking at this model. I do understand that it's better than the ones I have listed... Thanks for the incentive though. It is worth a consideration even as a long shot..

Thank you... I will review this.

You might want to take a look at the 80D and 77D (they have the same sensor) while you are comparing models.

I'm guessing they have anti flicker too.
