I only use zooms for bad weather when flipping lenses is a nightmare. On the Canon side, I just sold a 16-35 since I was funding the Fuji gear, and i tend to use the Fuji for up-close work these days. Someday I’ll probably buy another vIII. multidisciplinary visual guy, professor of visual art, irresponsible and salty.

If the quality of the Bokeh matters to you, the 1.4 is definitely the way to go. Naturally, you can also get more quantity with the extra stop, too. C&C always welcomed...

Naturally, you can also get more quantity with the extra stop, too. Having said that, the 18-55 is a killer lens and very convenient in certain conditions. I mostly use the 18-55 in studio for portraits since, at f8 and portrait range you would be hard pressed to guess which lens was used. I bought a used 35 1.4 and kept the 18-55. We're going to Disney and I think the 18-55 will come in handy for most shots and then I'll pop on the 35 for when I'm looking for a little more bokeh on some portraits while we're there.
