Any ideas on a DIY posing cube, preferably collapsible (limited storage space)? I could just build a wooden cube, but prefer plastic (more comfortable for the model) and, again, would love something that I can easily disassemble when done. Or, alternatively, just a reasonable source for cubes? The ones I've found online seem quite expensive for what you get...

hmm, i think you're right about comfort, especially if the model is not wearing any clothes. :D

I do a little wood work, nothing special, just utilitarian stuff, but I think i would avoid trying to build something like this. Time is money, and I could see it becoming a super long project.

If I was going to attempt it, i would build a box with one open end, and then put a laminate (for comfort) around the outside. Maybe with the open end you could design bolts that hold the whole thing together and remove them to break it down into pieces. Honestly though, I think the underlying structure would have to be such that even if it broke down into 5 sides, you might only save a small fraction of the assembled box. Instead, maybe look into making it a storage area when not in use?

Anything probably plastic or collapsible will probably not be sturdy enough to hold the weight of a model either sitting or standing on top of it.

Don't build it out of plastic, I will not be strong enough unless you use very thick plastic. A wooden box is about the simplest thing you can make which is why Home Depot kids project day is building a wooden box with a hole in it. (bird house)
1 sheet of 3/4 in. x 4 ft. x 8 ft. PureBond Birch Plywood (external link). If you have a table saw it's easy enough to cut yourself. If not, Home Depot will cut it for a small fee. Rip a 22.5" wide piece, 8' long. Cut that one every 23.25" creating 4 pieces 22.5" by 23.25". With the other piece of plywood, cut 2 pieces 24" by 24" (Top and bottom) Screw it together and you got your box. If you want it flat, sand and paint. If you want it shiny, cover it with formica (external link) of your choosing. $60 and you got yourself a 2' by 2' posing cube.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
