I've always admired the cool shots many have posted of Short Eared Owls from the West Coast, so was happy when I heard some were hanging out in an area not too far from me. It was worth getting stuck in the snow on the unplowed road to see them and it only took the 90 HP 4WD tractor an hour to get to me and an hour to pull me out :p Unfortunately I only got so far in this road on my quest before I could no further, but there were several owls in the area.

Good for you, Ian; we have them too, occasionally, but I've only just glimpsed one once.

Indeed, thank for commenting Shooter. Hey can you put your real first name as part of your signature?

Thanks very much Al. They're very much late-day subjects, JUST before dark, so not really in my normal time to be out shooting but I had to make the effort if I wanted them.

Okay, making a wild guess...you do not have Flamingos up there. Oh heck, you probably have them, too! :-|
At least, potn has someone who knows what they're doing in this awesome "birdland"! Another great series, Ian, super captures, all!!

Hi Rog! Ha well no flamingos but a couple Tri-Colored Herons and several Great Egrets are currently hanging out in Nova Scotia. They’re a bit of a drive from where I am but the pics I have seen are very cool as they’re all fancied up in their breeding colours.

.

I really like the light blue sky and direct frontlight in the first few images.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thanks Tom, yes the sun was directly behind me and not far from setting at that point, maybe 30 minutes to the sun disappearing.
