Three years and two days

Dear Board,

On President's Day 2015 Theresa and I lost our dog Avalon. I made a post about it that day.

Losing Avalon was tougher on Theresa than it was one me. She absolutely did not want another dog. I absolutely could not imagine not having a dog.

It was a tough couple of months but eventually I sort of convinced Theresa to go look at a dog.

Before she could say no I brought the dog home. Theresa absolutely hated our new dog Bear, for exactly two days. I know because I over heard their conversations.

Fast forward to today. The dog that Theresa didn't really like managed to dig up our old dog Avalon's bed and has reclaimed it as his own.

Never once for one second did I ever actually think that Theresa hated the Bear, or even me for bringing him home.

People deal with dogs, and losing one, differently. Theresa thinks that dogs get inside you and when they pass they sort of tear your heart apart. It is very hard for her to get over the loss. Myself on the other hand, thinks that dogs get inside of you specifically to open your heart. I can absolutely remember the last second that I spent with my previous dogs. But, I think it does more to honor a dog to accept a new one so I chose not to remember those times, except perhaps when I am alone and can truly reflect on them?

I suppose we are both equally right, and equally wrong?

Edited to add - Perhaps I haven't been clear with what I wrote? Theresa absolutely loves Bear, as do I. We simply see things, and dogs, differently.
