bannedPermanent ban

The only reasons for NOT renaming a file are:

1.) The NEW filename already exists in the current directory/folder.
2.) The file being renamed is open in another application.

Neither of those is Faststone's fault. If 1 or 2 isn't the problem, try re-installing FastStone.

Can you rename the file in explorer (if you are working with a windows box)? If not then this is not a Faststone issue.

Filename does not exist in current folder.

File being renamed is not open in another application ... FIV only application open.
Did install latest version.

File can be renamed in win explorer.

Thanks for replies.

I know this is a bit dated; however, this is the first thing that popped up in a search when I had the same problem.

Just out of the blue, and for no reason whatsoever, my FastStone began refusing to allow me to rename any files or folders.
At the same time, I could do the renaming in Explorer, no problem.

After having no luck in finding a solution, I did what almost always fixes software problems.....; I closed out of everything and Restarted the machine = Problem solved.
Restarting is to a computer very much like flushing the toilet; it purges away bad things so that everything can start afresh.

I have another reason that puts a lock only on certain files/folders such that they cannot be renamed, moved, nor deleted.
In these situations, the culprit is my copy of Photoshop Elements 7; I don't know if this holds true for other versions or other Adobe programs.
Regardless of when, what, or where, whatever folder Elements saves the last file to, Elements will prevent any manipulation of that folder or file until either of these things happen: I save a file to a different folder(in which case that file folder become locked) - I close Elements - I restart the machine.
I may have not used Elements in days; however, if the Elements program is still open, the lock remains; I will have completely forgotten about anything I may have done in Elements; and, days later, I try to manipulate that folder and I run into a stone wall.
I don't think I have any other program that exhibits this behavior.

Thanks Buckskin.

This happened so long ago I don't remember what the fix was.

It's possible it could have been fixed by a restart, because I do use hibernate on my computers often.
