Dear Board,

I tried using my 1DMK3 and everything appears to work up until I hit the shutter button. The camera then locks up and I get an error 99 display on the rear screen. It says unable to shoot turn the camera off and then back on or remove and reinstall the battery.

I've done both several times and even put a different battery and a different card into the camera all to no avail.

Is there anything else I might be missing that could make the camera work again or is is dead?

Regards,

Tim Murphy

Heya,

99 is a general error.

Take the battery out, turn camera on, let it sit a while and discharge. Then put a fresh battery, use a different battery if possible.
Take the lens off, try to shoot without a lens. If that works, then it might be the aperture diaphragm of the lens. So try another lens, or check the contacts.
If it does it without a lens attached, it may be the shutter.

Very best,

Dear Marty,

I tried several batteries, lenses, cards, and the A/C adapter with no luck. Nothing but error 99.

I pulled the lens and tried it without a lens. It fired.

I replaced the lens and it seems to be working with all lenses so please wish me luck!

Regards,

Tim Murphy :-)
