One of the major aspects of this update is the Adobe profile system. Take a look at this thread going on over at Luminous Landscape:

http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=124095.0 (external link)

Now, at least within the ACR dialog, you can create a new preset that will embed within it an external LUT - this will appear as one of the new creative "Profiles" in the new profile browser. If you use LUTs, this is a pretty major workflow shift, especially for batch processing images using the LUT. You must update to ACR 10.3 and LR v 7.3.

In addition to being able to make these creative profiles, once applied in the Profile Browser interface, there is an Amount slider which will permit the user to blend the creative effect with the base image to taste. You can overdrive the effect past 100% if you save the preset profile to do so.

I know I do my fair share of lamenting the state of LR and ACR, but I think this will be a huge benefit, especially to LR users.

Here is a summary of this new approach from Julianne Kost:

https://youtu.be/r3aKrscoUx0 (external link)

To make your own creative profile you need to use ACR and OPTION-Click on the New Preset icon in the lower right corner of the Preset tab - this will bring up the new Profile dialog which will permit you to specify the external LUT (in .cube format) to include in the Profile.

Some examples of external LUT corrections, previewed in the ACR dialog window, made with 3D LUT Creator and embedded in new creative Profiles in ACR. Color replacement mapping, two-strip simulation, etc. and the LUTs can be blended wit the original image using the amount slider.

There are several videos on Youtube from Adobe and others about the changes to Lr and ACR.

Finally put Dehaze where it belongs. It the Basic Tab. I'll probably use it more now.

I'm going to have to revisit all of this. I'm using Canon profiles but I'll have to check out Adobe Color which looks richer than Adobe Standard.

Looks like Adobe is competing with C1 by boosting out of the box processing. Sharpening default went to 40 as well. I guess they don't want C1 to be the shiniest lure in the tackle box anymore when people are testing both ;-)a

It is. That is what Adobe has said themselves in their various videos by Terry and Julianne. Adobe Standard is close to their old default profile.

The good news is the right combo of raw profile plus preset could get folks to a finished a bit quicker.

Has anyone had problems with presets after the update? I tried deleting a bunch of old preset folders but it won't let me, and I tried creating a new preset and that won't work either.

If you scroll down there are a few threads that may be helpful.

https://www.lightroomqueen.com …c-desktop-focused-app.64/ (external link)

I had an unrelated issue on my iMac. I first updated my iMac and it froze on the changing presets to xmp page. I did not realize it froze until I updated my MacBook Air. That step took a second. I thought it was just doing it's thing.

I called Adobe support and they told me some people were having issues and they reverted me to 7.2.

The support tech could not find the presets in the default location which is in the system folder. I forgot I moved the Presets folder on both devices to where the LR lives in Pictures. I like everything under one roof and set up both devices to point there.

The iMac froze and the Air was successful. The only difference is my iMac has an HD drive with EFS+ while my Air is SSD with the new APFS. I started at thread at lightroom queen and Victoria suggested I move the presets on my iMac back to the system folder and it worked.

I'm assuming there is a coding issue between EFS+ and APFS but can't say for sure. Not sure if this will be helpful but sometimes it leads to other paths.

There are reports of a range of issues with presets after the XMP conversion. There are several threads on the Adobe forums and elsewhere regarding the issues. Some people have presented workarounds but the word is that Adobe is aware of the situation and working on a solution. I can't say whether the issues you are having are part of the larger problem but you could try searching for people with similar issues or contacting Adobe support.

Another issue along the same line. My default settings failed to apply during import on my iMac no matter how many times I updated them. I even went back to Adobe Defaults and again applied the default settings and nothing. They did on my MacBook Air.

I have two sets of master files - 5D4 Personal Preferences and 7D2 PP located in the LR folder in Pictures. In LR this is were I make all my changes to default settings.

I removed 5D4 PP from LR and deleted that folder from the location. I took a series of shots, named the new folder 5D4 and moved it to the LR folder in Pictures to replace the old one. I then imported that folder from that location and all my defaults applied. I took a few new shots and defaults applied during import.

That is 2 issues I have had with the iMac and the both devices are set up exactly the same way. Looks like there may be some coding differences between EFS+ and AFPS about where things are pointing to. I don't know as I'm not savvy with computers when it comes to that.
