Just made the switch to Sony. Purchased the A7RIII. I also just received the 24-70 GM, purchased new from BH. I attached the lens and turned on the body. First thing I noticed was there was no fstop, and the camera was in manual focus. Tried to change the fstop, but it would just show dash marks and no fstop numbers. Then I went into the fn menu and tried to change it out of manual focus, and the message “lens may not be attached properly”. Turned off the camera, detached the lens, reattached the lens, and turned on the camera. Still the same thing. I tried checking the lens firmware version, but noticed it didn’t appear, and only the camera body version appeared.

To make sure it wasn’t the body, I attached my FE 50 1.8, and it worked fine. Is this a known problem? Did I get a bad lens? Any help would be great. Thanks.

There are no known issues with this lens (other than the standard issues you can get with any lens - decentering etc). Unfortunately it sounds like you got a faulty copy

Thanks. Definitely was a faulty copy. Tried it on a friends a6000, and same problem. Sent back to BH for another one.
