I'm searching for a video editing software that allows the user to click on a moving subject (person, car or other movable object in the video) which will encase a shape such as a circle around the object and remain with that object while it's moving.

Suggestions?

Thank you

This is a function known as tracking. You need software in which you can assign tracking points to different parts of your subject, then run an analysis pass to determine the tracking path. Then, you apply that path to something else, like a circle.

I've used After Effects for this - it will do it, as will most other advanced compositing software. But my experience is with AE.

Possibly the freeware version of Davinci Resolve does this? They keep adding stuff to it. Worth checking out.

Had a minute this evening to check it out - of course Resolve tracks. Duh. That’s how you track a color correction mask! I’ve not used Resolve that much.

This is a pretty simple and ugly demo, tracking text to a moving object, but could be used as a cookbook for a circle or other graphic element:

Thank you. I download Resolve even if just to try out for other processing.

Blender is very robust. It has a video editing module. It is an Open Source product.
