Happy to help. The BEST way to do macro work is with a dedicated macro lens.
It is also the most expensive way. If cost is a factor for you, consider a close-up lens (screw into front threads of any lens), or a set of extension tubes. Both are much cheaper than a macro lens. Use close-ups on long(er) lenses, and tubes on shorter lenses. Another way is to buy a teleconverter, or TC (1.4x or 2.0x), for use between you lens and camera. The TC increases the focal length of a lens, without changing the minimum focus distance. Net result: larger subject in the viewfinder.
Far and away, the best answer to macro is a dedicated macro lens.
