I am trying to stay away from the next decade bracket that is heading my way

You are basically just starting your eighth decade. I don't think you need to worry about that ninth decade any time soon.

Hey wait a bit here! Let's NOT push the age here!!!!!

I am trying to stay away from the next decade bracket that is heading my way

Push age? You don't have to push it, it rolls on quite well all by its self!

Never forget that growing old is all part of the master plan, but growing up ain't :p

And just as a matter of interest that makes me 16 with 54 years experience

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

Speaking of age, a co-worker of mine worked until he was 100 years old. In fact, he retired on his 100th birthday.
He died about one month after retiring (in 2006). In the 72 years that he worked at the company, he only missed one day of work - when his wife died.
Since we worked at different divisions, I only had contact with him one time. But he was a legend at Metro.

Anyone here own a Halina Paulette camera?

It was my first ‘real’ 35mm, viewfinder, camera, upgrading first from a Brownie Box and then an Instamatic 25 and then 32.

When you talk to younger gen computer folks these days about JCL they give you a blank look

Perfectly Frank wrote in post #18904676 (external link)
I'm giving you a blank look right now

Inspeqtor wrote in post #18904745 (external link)
I am 69 years young, and I am also giving you the blank look!

OhLook wrote in post #18904750 (external link)
You also get a blank look when you talk to noncomputer folks of any gen. So please add me to the list of blank lookers.

LOL. I’m not 69 yet but I know what JCL is. I guess that’s what separates the IBM mainframe geezers from the other computing geezers, huh?! ;-)a

In the late '80s I had a Commodore Amiga 2000. It had graphics up to 4096 colors, stereo audio, and ran more than one program at the same time. You could just turn it off at any time without damaging it. A 200MB hard drive was $200. I still have it in a box somewhere.
Sadly, the owner, Mehdi Ali, didn't understand how to market it & it died a slow death in the marketplace.

I had the Commodore Amiga, too. I actually had the 1st gen Amiga which I upgraded to from the Commodore 64. :-D

I wasn't one to play games on computers but there was one game I was hooked on which I played on the Amiga. It was a submarine game by Electronic Arts.

My photography life started with the Brownie Box which my father bought for us from the PX when we were in grade school. We upgraded to the Instamatic when we were in high school! I got my first "real" camera, i.e. a 35mm SLR camera (my dream camera back then), when I was in college. LOL :-)

Do you mind sharing with us then what JCL is so we won't have a blank look anymore?

From techopedia

"Job Control Language (JCL) is the command language of Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS), which is the commonly used Operating System in the IBM Mainframe computers. It consists of control statements that designate a specific job for the operating system. JCL provides a means of communication between the application program, operating system and system hardware."

CC always welcome.

Of course Inspector C, you know what IBM stands for don't you? It's Beyond Me or I've Been Married or It's Bloody Magic or Involuntary Bowel Movement or lots of others things. Some even say that it stands for International Business Machines but as I was only employed by them, here in the U.K., for 18 tears I am not too sure of that  ( Note: You will notice that I didn't say 'work' for them  )

In more understandable terms....it consists of control statements that allow you to run a program, or string together multiple programs, to make a job. Eg. Run a program to do an extract, followed by one to do a sort, followed by one to do a report.

Each step has the program name and then a set of statements that define what the generic names in the program actually refer to in the actual implementation. Eg. If the program says “ read from payroll”, it has a statement that defines ‘payroll’ as file_name of payroll is payroll.july.details.v1
