And using an analogy, JCL is to IBM DOS and MVS as batch file and PowerShell are to Microsoft DOS and Windows, and Automator is to Apple Mac OS X. :-)

Where does IBMs PC DOS fit in?

:)

I had this,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_PC_DOS (external link)
...versions 6.3 and 7.

Installed on my first PC. (it came with MS-DOS and Win 3.1, but when I set it up to dual boot Win 3.1 and Win95 a few years later, I used PC-DOS instead. I don't remember why. It likely had to do with the dual booting.

It's no Amiga or commodore,. (I did play with commodores at school) but it had a cavernous 512MB hard drive and a whopping 16 megs of RAM (I insisted on double the then usual 8megs) It was a first gen Pentium 100! (maybe 75? now I can't remember)

Considering there are only three rows of keys, it looks like a Baudot teletype machine. The box to the left is about the right size to be a TD (tape reader for Baudot paper tape).

I've seen lots of Baudot TTYs, even had a full TTY setup on the air (I'm an amateur radio operator), but I've never seen that model.

very close - Creed 7P pretty much a keyboard with a perf attached for 5-unit tape (no send or receive capability)
awfully noisy and makes lots of chads (punched out hole confetti) really quickly. :-)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

No, not PC DOS. IBM mainframe DOS. That’s DOS before there ever was a PC. ;-)a

How's about teroidal core storage?

I used to repair the 2kb 'books' of it that Nixdorf Confusion, sorry Computers used in their machines.

Then when I joined IBM I was given the job of repairing a huge 1/4 meg cabinet of the stuff on an IBM 350 90 that had been 'Christmas treed' in Liverpool University before it was shipped out to some place in Africa! That really was a laugh a minute?

A little light reading on the subject ;-)a

Ah, yes! That was when the term “core” referred to memory rather than CPU. :-)

Or you could use a yellow notepad to store the same amount of data @ .75 cents. :)

Now, that's more my style. Better yet, that stack of junk mail, one side good.

You still can. Stores still have windows!

Speaking of commerce, I don't write nearly so many checks as in the "olden days." I used to write checks to get cash (it's ATM now) and to pay for store purchases (now cash or credit card). Recurring bills are paid by electronic transfer.

Are they like cheques? :-)

I don't think I have used a cheque/check for over 20 years. Our banks don't even offer a possibility any more.
