What do you guys look for out of a photography YouTube channel?

I think audiences are spilt for the things you mentioned. One camp that is very technical vs another that is more creative. I watch a lot of different channels for different reasons. For example I watch The angry photographer and rob hall when I want tech details, Piximperfect and zoe noble for editing, Anita Sadowska for fashion shoots, Miguel Quiles for headshots, the list can go on for a while.

Also it seems like you are a millennial like myself so asking this question in a forum full of non millennials you will get mixed reviews. One of the big reasons I watch and subscribe to YouTuber's is because of their persona. The first YouTuber I found with wit that could still give you a decent review was Kai, his style was just so different so he stood out like crazy. Someone that has a well balanced channel for my liking is Peter McKinnon, great content that is easy to watch and he even throws in a bit of motivational speaking, lol.

YouTube as a resource also depends on what your end goal is. Do you want to be taught or do you want to be entertained? As mentioned, different strokes for different folks. No one style or topic or type of channel will appeal to everyone.

For me, I am about education. I want to be taught something. For that I look to someone I can relate to, whose lessons are comprehensible and on topic without a lot of extra filler designed to boost ratings. I don't care for the gags and visual jokes. Kai (just as an example) was mentioned and while I enjoy his antics I am not educated by his videos. They are, for me, frivolous entertainment with a light spattering of information. Someone else may find more value in his videos and would therefore rank his videos higher than I would. It's all subjective.

In the end, it's up to you to decide who your target audience you want to attract and then build the content to appeal to that audience. Once you have identified that audience then you can ask for suggestions about content. But to ask a broad question to a broad target range is only inviting a broad range of answers.

Sorry, but I did not enjoy this at all.

I didn't see how it was funny. . Nor was it clever, or enlightening, or even interesting. . I just don't see what it was supposed to be.

It was quite well done from a technical and production standpoint, but the content is, well, there's just nothing there that I can be interested in or amused by in the least.

Sorry, but this one seems to be a swing and a miss to me.

To be fair, again, you are asking broad questions, or rather, subjective ones. "Funny content" is subjective so you won't get an objective critique. If you want specific critique to a specific problem you need to be less vague about what you are trying to accomplish.

The video was very well done. It looked professional, had a good storytelling flow and led the viewer to a reasonable conclusion. Tom's answer was the expected response to your question so he can't be faulted for his opinion, regardless of whether he is your target audience or not. You can't dismiss his response so easily because you did ask for that response. If you are looking for a clearer answer you need to ask a clearer question.

I hope this gives you something to think about as you move forward with your project.

For the "how to" lighting videos or such, please show the final results in the beginning of the video so that we know wether that's what we're looking for or not and not wasting our time

Some videos even do not show the final results.

Honestly the opintion was fine and yours is also. I just wanted genteral feedback really. It was a project to keep me busy at my studio and include some cool people.

Oh and thanks for the storytelling flow comment I tryed really hard to edit the pieces in a logical flowy way

I mean, what specific demographic did you have in mind for this video?

I ask because it seems like it was meant for a very general audience; so general that I wouldn't think that anyone would be considered "non-target".

The video features middle-aged people who appear to speak English as a first language - a group to which I belong. . What is it about me, demographically, that is non-target?

I hear you about losing it in translation. Unfortunately it happens all the time in forums so I apologize if mine came across harsh. To me, it just seems you're contradicting yourself from what you asked initially based on the replies people have.

Unfortunately I'm still confused by what you're trying to get from the questions. Is it about overall content a channel? Are you trying to rebrand yourself? Are you shooting on spec or to highlight your abilities? I'm just saying that having a little more background into your goals will help direct to more useful answers. Obviously you have the skills and, from the looks of it, some support from others.

I donno dude Im just trying make somthing. I got some cool people to come by and take part in making a video. Short, hopfully mildly entertaining, video. Sorry I didnt make Citizen Kane. Coming up with crazy original content and being able to get people to show up, execute the idea and get it up on the internet isnt easy. Like I was saying to Duck you can have your opinion thats fine but its really kind funny what gets alot of views on youtube.

Im just trying to make stuff. Im finding that I really dont want to be in videos anymore. I realized I have friends that are funny so might as well think up an idea for some videos involving them.

I shot the taste test as a series so I have content for 5 more videos that Tom wont like haha. I also put together a big project that is still in editing I cant wait to see what Tom thinks of that.

Seeking success with first few videos is kind of like a baby seeking to be a success the first time she tries to walk. It just doesn't make rational sense, but it is how our emotions respond.

There are fluke exceptions, but almost every profound success is proceeded by huge amounts of hard work, preparation and/or practice. This fact is often missed or even actively concealed, but when you dig deeper.....

I also think it would help you a lot to come back and reread what is here. You frequently dismiss feedback and I suspect you are dismissing the most valuable feedback for you. Why? It's human nature. We don't know what we don't know.

The only things holding you back are (1) the willingness to get and hear objective feedback and (2) the willingness to put in the hard work before expecting success.

Just thinking aloud...

Since you have friends willing to be in front of the camera, consider also finding friends to come up with content ideas. Perhaps one or two who like the idea of writing sketches or a friend who is a natural at creating funny situations, etc. Spread the task of creating content to a small group, each with their own responsibility. That would free you up to doing what you would rather do than trying to do everything. Again, talking aloud since I don't your current situation.

I hear you duck. Thats the hard part. You can easily go too big and it becomes expensive or you are trying to get people to work for free. My last project (coming soon) cost me a chunk of change and its honestly not going to do any better then these little free videos.
