If the world was flat, cats would have knocked everything off of it by now.

Dave mentioned this quote from a Q&A posted:

I think one of the most wonderful things about Flickr, and something that sets it apart from almost every other service, is how woven into the fabric of the Internet it has become.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of permalinks, and I can't imagine a world where we'd break them.

I may have read the very same regarding PhotoBucket's newest transition,
though I'll be damned if I can remember where.

However, there has been a b0rk of my Flickr links.
I'm a short-time user, and recent picture posts of mine have had to be
edited for the pics to show again after revisiting them.

I CAN say, with certainty, that there has been a rearrangement of Flickr linking,
as far as the (random - ?) hashlinks used to be. By editing a couple of my posts
with the newest links, the images display again. This was only possible after
after editing to copy/paste the current links, and did not change after clearing
cookies/cache within 3 different browsers.
Whether or not this was intentional, I cannot say.

Flickr changes those random parts when you change permissions on your gallery, maybe other settings, too.

If they would change them ALL, it would mean invalidating all permalinks to their images, which is what they said they will not do.

That makes sense.
However, no changes had been made to the album settings.

I suppose it could have been a random hiccup in the system,
because a couple of images showed as unavailable, even though
they were just fine at upload.

yeah, but that's okay. I've heard Flickr is dying and that makes me very sad, there is almost nothing to take it's place.

Actually, they're keeping free-user accounts.

The change to those will be to limit said accounts to a total of 1,000 images/videos.
So, if you're a free account-holder and have over 1,000 files uploaded,
you'll have a limited time to reduce those numbers to be no more than
the 1,000-file limit.
If not done by a certain date, Flickr will cull your files for you,
retaining the newest 1,000 of them and bitbucketing the older ones.

welp there goes flickr. 1000 images for a free account is pretty lame. I hardly ever upload to flickr and I am at 1600 photos.

About two years ago my Flickr account stopped working. The photos were, and are, all still there, but I can no longer log in to that account, and both Flickr and Yahoo were complete failures at helping me. I can still access and "right click" photos and save them; it's weird.

What would be the best SmugMug account level to go with? I've love to sell images through the site, which is something I haven't done before...

Just shut up and smile...
