Looks like I may have to have a wander down to WW with the varied selection you are posting.

Chance would be a fine thing for me too. You have managed to get some lovely photos Mark.

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

Maybe we should have a POTN meet at Waltham to photograph some aircraft! :-)

That's a cracking shot of the drivers seats. I think that they changed the wheel to the spade handle so they could get more switches on it.

That's incredible to see that closed loop linkage on the side of the cockpit exterior! Was that for the elevator? It would have been a straight run from there, but what (?) in any icing conditions! And the single arm linkage just above it? Is there another one on the port side? For the rudder maybe?

POTN. Me TAAB (thick as a brick) I knew that I had seen that somewhere before?

Has anyone noticed that there are always an odd number of cylinders on a radial engine? Usually 7 or 9 and if you have a 14 cylinder donk than there are 2 banks. It's all up to the balance of the engine when running. Even number would unbalance the engine. Don't ask, I forgot why?

3 (Anzani. Lawrance), 5, 7, 9, then the banked engines, which are multiples of 3 (Curtiss R-600), 5, 7, and 9. These engines have odd cylinders in a bank because they are 4-stroke engines, each cylinder fires every other rotation.

Below, is a single bank 6-cylinder radial (rotary, in this case) engine, 2-stroke, so every cylinder fires every rotation.

The "closed loop" was for the elevators as you surmise. The "single arm" linkage is for the rudder, it is "closed loop" on the other side of the plane.

I'm pretty sure they really tried to avoid icing. No boots, heaters, deicing fluid.

I'm told this is a double R-4360 Wasp Major.
