Things are so dry here that CalFire launches their aircraft for even the smallest wildfires. This OV-10 spotter plane was over the house at low altitude coming back from a 2 acre fire that was quickly put down. The skies are very hazy around here due to smoke from the Caldor Fire up neat Lake Tahoe.

Thanks for the kind words Capn Jack. Yes, they look simple and quite fragile to boot, much like how monarch butterflies are delicate in so many ways yet sturdy enough to migrate hundreds of miles to their wintering grounds in Mexico and back. I'm guessing that significant improvements in the strength and lightness of the materials that are used to build these aircraft have made it possible to manufacture them that way.
