Thank you very much Kev,
I am not at all happy with that light distortion of the runway lights caused by the windscreen ahead of my camera, but the opportunity could not have been missed.

Cheers,

Dom

One of the blokes in my RC glider club built a PSS model of the B2. It was a pig to fly and a real cow to land! But he was flying it by the seat of his pants

It looked great in the air and his facial expression was priceless while he was flying it!

PSS, for the uninitiated is Power Slope Soared. A scale or semi scale powered aircraft but built as a glider

An example

And the owner collecting it from the slope after a good landing

I don't know what plane it is. The picture was taken at a open day on an airbase of the Dutch airforce

That is an AV-8 Harrier VTOL. There was never a two seat version so it was quite tricky to learn how to fly it hovering. The instructor watched you from the ground and advised you over the radio. When he told you to, "Throw out your wallet!" It meant you were about to kill yourself in a very hot fireball.

I don’t think that is an Atlantique. I believe it is a Lockheed P2V Neptune.

It is a Neptune. They first arrived in England about 70 years ago and were a guarded secret at R.A.F. Topcliffe, Yorkshire where my father was stationed. We lived in married quarters there. I was 7 and a mate and me made our way onto the airfield and were escorted away from underneath one of them  We had had a good look around it too :-P

So much for security

I remember thinking how strange it was to see an aircraft that didn't have its tail on the ground. The aircraft there at the time were Avro Hastings and Vickers Valettas, or 'Pigs' as they were known.
