Lovely shots, all of them. The Mirage F1 piques my interest, as the fighter type is over 40 years old and I've seen them first-hand, engaging F-14 Tomcats in Med cruise war games (in conjunction with Buccaneers from the HMS Ark Royal), in 1979.

Thanks Manny. There are at least three Miarage F1's at Luke: N610AX, N617AX and N634AX. All three are painted the same.

I heard that a Canadian company is buying old jets, refurbishing them and then contracting with the US for advanced combat training. They supposedly have a presence in the Phoenix area. Not sure of the company name or if any of the above is true, but a quick web search turned up two Canadian companies providing such services to the US Military.

Update: A more thorough search turned up Draken International as the owner of the Mirages. They provide the advanced fighter jet training that I described above.

It always surprises me at the size of the bomb bay on them compaired to the Lanky Bomber

Sorry about the quality but it's taken from some video I took at one of the Kemble Air Days.

Thank you Mike and dangermoney for your info regarding these beautiful NATO Cold War interceptors.
I wish an American politician or private patriot outfit would find it worth spending a buck or two preserving and restoring a Tomcat to flight status. Ditto for an F-4 Phantom or an A-5 Vigilante.
Kind regards.

Wow, great image!

Although I'm a Canon shooter, I'd sure like to give the Sony 200-600mm a try for aviation.
Would be interesting to see how it compares to Canon's 100-500mm.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.
