Speaking of NJ. I've been hiking on the Appalachian Trail for over 35 years. I've completed Springer Mtn Ga. to Hanover NH. More sightings of bears are reported on the New Jersey section of the AT than any other state. In all my years of hiking I've only walked up on to two bears. One in Massachusetts and one in the Smokies. In each case snapping an image was the last thing on my mind. I have to ask MedicineMan... When talking black bears I've never done anything but run towards them getting as good a shot and as close a shot as possible.
