Make it look like the R is Lighted

So, I did a photoshoot of a friends Golf R32 (Slightly Tuned and modified )

She has made a custom Cutout of this "R" at the trunk and it is fitted with a red light connected to the brake lights. Looks really cool when she brakes!

But there was a slight problem during the photoshoot...the light didn't work

But I would love to make it "glow" when giving her the image...
So, what are your ideas to make it look like the light is on and red?

Tried masking it out and filling it with red, but that does not make it look good enough.

Any ideas?

You could post up the image, would be better than trying to guess what you are starting with.

Otherwise, try dodging the midtones and shadows of the R.
You can then work from there on just the selection to adjust to taste, brightness/saturation.

I'm sure there is a better way to do it, I've seen it somewhere, but can't for the life of me remember how.
Masks comes to mind??
One of the more experienced guys will know and point you in the right direction.

Create a path around the R, stroke it w/ a thin white brush and then add an inner and outer red glow to it, adjust settings as needed.

Post up the image and I can show you what I mean...

If I understood you correctly here is what I would do. I would find a similar red light and photograph it. Then I would put in Photoshop the photo of the Golf over the photo of the light (layers, hide, ...etc) and then I would use brush to make red light visible where you need to be.
I'm not on my comp so I'm writing from my memory but I think you know the procedure.

Struggled to get the "light" effect, and I'm pretty positive the RED is wrong.

Another example:

Create a new blank layer, grab your brush and paint 'inside the lines' so to speak!
Here, I used color #cc0000, pick any color you want.
Set the layer blend mode to 'color'.
On my example I attached a 'curves' layer clipped to the painted layer to increase brightness.
Outer glow uses the same color, see pic for settings.
Inner shadow uses the same color as well, also see settings.

note: on my example I used 'multiply' blend mode for the 'inner shadow', but 'screen' or 'overlay' may be a better choice to retain more of the white highlights.
