Any school photographers on here?

We have been hired to photograph some small (300 kids) private unclass schools. We initially set up with Miller's Lab Schools and ImageQuix, but found that Miller's Schools dvision doesn't work with ImageQuix. Well..it does, but only for prints.

We are now going to move over to ACI.

My question for school photographers, especially smaller schools, is what process do you use for matching images to sutdents. I know there are some high-end software solutions out there, but we are only doing 4 schools a year, and don't really want to add any more, so we are not excited about a high priced or subscription based program.

Thanks in advance!

There are several low-tech alternatives to keep track of names when taking photos.

The first is to keep a log of image numbers and names. If you have a list of names in advance, create a log sheet with the kids' names in one column and another column to note image numbers. When a kid comes up, ask their name, and find it on the sheet. Take the photos and note the image number next to their name. It's easier if you have an assistant who can be dedicated to this task. When you're processing the images you know the names of each kid.

I recently did this at a tradeshow, where I took 60+headshots. I had the attendee hold up their name badge for the first pic:

Another alternative is to use a slate. Get a small dry erase board and write the name of each kid as they come up for their photo. With the kid in place, take the first photo of the kid holding the slate, positioned so you can still see their face and their name. Shoot away, and repeat with all the kids.

Both of these methods are virtually free, relatively fast, and work well.
