This specimen was brought home from the greenhouse by the better-half.
It was moribund upon arrival and soon passed. Which is to say it died a natural
death/not by my hands.

May 17, 2018 09:30 | #3 Maybe Eastern Yellowjacket, if you are in the USA. They nest underground mostly and are a **** to walk over when the swarm up your pant legs. I think there are two species here. The Queens and Drones mate in the Fall. He dies, then she hibernates. One species starts her nest about a month earlier, then the other will invade the first nest if she can find it. She will kill the first queen, and use her offspring to raise her offspring.

LeftHandedBrisket Combating camera shame since 1977... More info Post edited over 5 years ago by Left Handed Brisket. (3 edits in all) | May 17, 2018 09:54 | #4 Yeah, looks like a yellow jacket. Terrible creatures. The boys and I turned around to get a turtle off the road yesterday, and pretty much never kill anything, but these things are the worst. I kill 'em all PSA: The above post may contain sarcasm, reply at your own risk | Not in gear database: Auto Sears 50mm 2.0 / 3x CL-360, Nikon SB-28, SunPak auto 322 D, Minolta 20

They are also known to raid honeybees hives, particularly at the end of the season.
