My friend's 16-year-old daughter is a brilliant child who deals with ADHD. She has a keen interest in photography and is good with Photoshop and a camera. I have decided to teach her all I know. This photograph represents our second time working together. I tasked her with finding a way to express her ADHD visually and this is one of the ideas she came up. Since it is early and there is so much to learn, I am still behind the camera. But that will be changing soon. We are sharing the copyright for these photos.

:)

This was created using an open shutter, ambient light & flash. Single exposure, no compositing/layering.

Hello Miss Julia,

I feel compelled to write you after your post of and about your neighbour's 16 year old daughter who is challenged by ADHD.

I want to extend a big thank you for mentoring this girl. As an older adult with ADHD, a non-verbal learning disability, a teacher for 14 years (Special Education a large part of my work) the attention, respect, interest, confidence etc. will undoubtedly help her with a positive trajectory in life. Too often the 'system' does not do children with exceptionalities justice. In the case of kids with ADHD they have had a lot of losses/failures by the time they are teenagers, and are significantly more at risk of getting involved with or going in 'the wrong direction' in his/her life.

As someone who was positively influenced at a time I could have easily taken a very bad turn, and knowing what the literature says about the higher number of representation in lost jobs, broken relationships, unemployment etc., your effort I believe and hope will truly change this girl's life.

Luv the photo btw.

Scott
