Spotted this spider on one of my camellias but thought it looked a bit silly on a green leaf so I moved it to a mollis azalea flower.
I may have fed her a couple of flies since then.

These are awesome, Brian. #4 is best, really well composed and clear!

I love Crab Spiders, very fun to shoot. The flies: did you just hand them to her, or what?

great series of shots..

Thanks for the comments :)

Mathew - I give the flies a headache by shaking them in the little sample catch pot I use to trap them and then use a pair of forceps to get hold of a wing and offer them to the spider which actually comes forward to grab the prey.

Wonderful captures Brian, great action shots with the flies, think the hold in the last frame is a "half Nelson"!

Brian,
Excellent set. Love the behavior shots, but image #3 is fantastic! Your work never ceases to thrill and amaze.

Excellent work Brian. I like the eyes on flower crab spiders, the inner two front facing ones always seem a different colour, and the 'mask' makes them stand out.

Nice set. May have looked silly to you but scientists inform us that the background colour is irrelevant and they do not change colour for camouflage ie it makes no difference to their success as predators or indeed avoiding larger predators themselves.
