Why do we have these Discuss & post photos threads?
Seeing a lot of more or less nice photos from different cameras is nice. After all, that's what the cameras are for and photography is all about.
Discussing cameras and their featurs is nice. That's what photography focused forums are all about.

But why do we mix them? It just means that you can't look at pictures without getting entangled in various discussions. At the same time, you can't contribute or learn from a lot of the discussions, because they are hiding among a lot of pictures. So Discuss OR post photos would be better.

In my opinion, this forum would be much better if we had "1DX Mark II owners, post photos" threads, where we only post photos, and other threads about how to display the live histogram in video mode on your camera, or whatever.

.
The vast majority of camera discussion topics are most effectively discussed if the discussion includes the posting of photos. . Many of us not only want to be told something, but we also want and need to be shown.

Discussion about noise grain from a given camera body at a given ISO would be pretty lame if we couldn't post photos to show others what the grain was like.

Discussion about follow-focus consistency with rapidly moving subjects would be crippled if we didn't have in-sequence images showing the hits, misses, near-hits, and near-misses.

Discussions about a camera's dynamic range capabilities in specific conditions would be moot if we couldn't see what those conditions were. . I need to see the scene that someone is trying to photograph in order to fully understand the challenges they are facing with the handling of the lights and the darks in that particular scene.

If we had a "discussion only" thread, as soon as someone wanted to discuss a particular difficulty they were having with their camera's performance, others would say, "can you post some samples to show us what is going on in the photos?" . And then you would soon have a mixed discussion / photo posting thread, despite the original intent of having it be discussion-only.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I find the lens photo sample threads are more or less what you're thinking of - in terms of a gallery of random images from members. There's not a whole lot of discussion in them (except for when a lens is new and everyone's jazzed about it). Later on in the pages it's mostly just images....

I like the flow that things have on this forum. I've tried others that are structured as you describe but they're not very user friendly, and not nearly as informative as this one. I've learned LOADS of great stuff from POTN. And, I've got loads more to learn. It works well the way it is IMO.

Well, I meant that we could have a photo-oriented thread, per camera body, but the discussion threads should be per subject (and body, when applicable). Nothing wrong with photos in such a discussion thread, when it's related to the discussion. But we would avoid that questions get mixed up with a lot of photos, and thus are hard to notice.

But maybe it's only me.

I can see what you are getting at. It would be nice if every camera body had 2 running threads, one for displaying photos and one for questions and answers with photos of needed.

I, however, don't believe in two running threads. I believe in one running thread intended for photos to admire, but that problems should be handled each in their own thread, with a suitable headline. But of course these threads could also contain photos, to illustrate the problem.
