Cormac took a picture recently of a Penn Central engine coming out of Elkhart, Indiana
I have lived in Elkhart 99% of my life, but I have not seen any PC engines since the 70's when Penn Central folded up; 1976 per Wikipedia.
Norfolk Southern now operates the rail yard in Elkhart.
I am wondering since it appears NS does still use these engines, do they possibly use the engines one direction only from Elkhart, which I would guess would be heading west towards South Bend.
The bulk of the trains I see would be heading south out of Elkhart going towards Goshen, Indiana
It seems to me that in all the years I have lived in Elkhart, and I do see a fair amount of the trains going towards Goshen that I would have seen PC engines from time to time in the last several decades.
Or did NS just recently bring the PC engines out of retirement?
Thank you
My interest in trains.... my father was a railroader starting with New York Central and retiring from Penn Central in 1975 serving around 40 years in total.
