Just had this err 30 come up on my 5 year old 5d mk11 ,is the camera worth sending off for repair do they still do the mk11 version?.Just wondering if anyone has had a repair done .
I used to use this camera alot before i got my g1x mk11 and now i barely use the dslr . I am torn because i have about 5 L lenses but is it worth paying out for a repair .
Any advice welcome https://www.canon.co.uk …20Costs_tcm14-1174182.pdf (external link)

The L-lenses you have can still be used if you decide to buy a newer Canon EOS camera instead. Besides, your cameras are only mark II - they aren't up to eleven yet. :-)
But since the 5D Mark III was introduced six years ago, perhaps you could consider a used such camera, if you don't want to spend money on a new one. Considering you don't use it too much, maybe that's a better solution for you.

Did you clean all of the contacts. Lens, and check the card door switch for dirt.

I don't remember the meaning now, but Error 30 has a specific meaning. Have you checked what it's for? It's not like the Error 99, which mean anything you can't specify.
If I look in the log in the camera I have on the desk right now, it says that 2017-06-07 at 19:21, it suffered from a communication issue between lens and body. That's an error 01.
However, for the camera I have here, they just say that error 30 is something that prevented photography, but they still don't disclose exactly what. So it's perhaps just for internal use in the workshop.

The only big error I've had in the last few years was obvious. The camera got hit in the rear so the small display cracked and it didn't work at all. No error code needed, as it was extremely obvious what the problem was. They replaced the rear body part and some electronics inside, and then it works again.

Error code 30 is listed as being related to the shutter: http://cpn.canon-europe.com …ror_codes_and_messages.do (external link)

unless you're a serious DIY'er, and the problem continues, there's likely not much you can do other than send it in for repair.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

That's something I hope I never have to deal with my 5d mkii. I hope it wasn't on a job or something important.

A bit out of my price range, i was looking at the 6 d for full frame or the 7d mk11 but a friend of mine has the 80d and looking at the specs it does seem very good.

My photo buddy at work just ordered the 80D. He wanted the newer sensor over the 7D2.

I am finding the loss of the wide angle a conundrum, once you have had it i know i will miss it ,especially if it makes me carry two lenses again.

Having more than one lens available is the whole point of the system camera.
