Not gonna carry a DSLR while hunting, is this a viable alternative?

Just wondering what others think about using photo merge in PS to get the best use of cell phone or p&s photos while out and about on my hunting trips, mainly for landscape photos. I realize there will be more limitations using this method, but Ive been getting decent results taking 5 or 6 photos on my Note 8 and then just merging them together when I get home. Anyone else using this method, or have a better method for me to try?

The issue with not wanting to take my DSLR is kind of obvious. I hunt with a pack, pretty deep in the back country, and it just gets in the way usually, unless I have it packed away, but then its just not handy to get to when I need it. Besides my pack is a solid 20lbs and if I get an animal down, thats another 80 that I have to pack out (at a time)

These are the typical results Ive been getting with photo merge. Any critiques?

Thanks!

A good point and shoot. By what I have read Fuji seams to be popular but I I don't know the details. I don't hunt but some of my friends do. I am considering making my travel kit lighter and going with a crop and a good P&S. I already have a Canon G10 but it feels too light and small for me. Produces nice pocks. Maybe I'll force myself to use it next time.

I think it looks great, regardless of it being from a phone. Phone cameras are actually becoming rather incredible, especially with auto-HDR and built in panorama. They're quite good at doing just this very thing you're looking to do. My Galaxy S7 (old now) was simply better in bad light in low light restaraunts with windows behind people when we would take photos as a family at tables when we go out and stuff, compared to my seemingly much better larger sensor EOS-M and 22mm F2 pancake. The phone's images simply were better right away, didn't have to do any RAW pushing/pulling, didn't have to take multiple shots and produce an HDR with those strong back light windows, etc. The damn phone nailed it. We literally stopped taking cameras with us for the most part.

Stick with your phone. It serves several purposes. It does photography for your needs quite well, it's better than a P&S for this purpose.

Now, if you're wanting to photograph wildlife at a distance, before the take down, that's a different story.

Very best,

I've literally never used a phone in the outdoors for shooting. And the owl photo I took a year ago with my full frame and 135mm confirmed to me why a phone so frequently handicapped. Thankfully I brought my 135mm because I left the 70-200mm to spare weight.

My lighter alternative is going to be the 50x Canon point and shoot my wife didn't end up using much after all. I recall how versatile my Canon 10x was ten years ago. And I'm going to take the point and shoot when I go off trail. It will blow the doors down on phones because there's so many compositions and subjects in the distance worth including. And the small bodies are pretty light. They zoom to distances that would require a huge $12000 lens on my full frame.
