I have a Rebel XTi and tryi g to put it back to factory settings. Everything i find says to go to the tools menu and scroll down to "clear settings" I dont see that option on my camera. There are only 3 options listed under thw tools setting and none say any thing about "clear settings". Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

Been a while since I had my XTi, but if I remember correctly, just remove both batteries for a few seconds and everything resets back to factory defaults.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I just downloaded the XTi PDF Manual from HERE (external link)

Go to page 100 where it shows how to reset to Default Settings. :-)

You have fewer menu options when the camera is in full automatic mode as Charles noted above.

OVF,

I am not following what you just said. I was not looking for fewer options, I just followed the manual's description.

I wasn't addressing you :-). I was explaining to the OP that when the camera is in the fully auto modes (Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Green Box), many menu options (including reverting to default settings) aren't available that are available in the creative modes, i.e., P, Av, Tv, M.

You don't remember correctly. Removing the battery does nothing. Removing the watch battery does what you could expect, i.e. the camera's clock gets wrong.

The procedure to reset the settings is correctly listed in the thread. Just note that there are two different reset procedures, one for normal settings and another for the custom functions.

Vickie,
Anyone can go to Canon USA web site and obtain the user manual for a specific model camera, in PDF form.

The instruction for resetting XTi to factory default settings is on page 100, and page 102.

"On the [(wrench)T2 Clear Settings] menu...Select 'Clear All Custom Functions'
