American bittern with a snake

Caught this bittern mid-day on the Alamosa NWR in South central Colorado. Thought it was a GBH from a distance, but was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a bittern. I've never seen a bittern catch a snake before!

Thanks Bill. I've enjoyed a good run this spring with the 7D and Tammy. Easily my best bird photography so far.

That bittern was kinda stuck. He wouldn't give up his snake but it was difficult for him to fly with it too. So he gave me lots of opportunity.
