I shoot general family stuff, landscape and birds. Don't do sports.

I currently have a 5D4, 6D and two 7D2s.

I love my 5D4, so it's going nowhere but I'm thinking of selling my 6D and the two 7D2s to get either a 1DX II or a second 5D4. Any comments or opinions?

More specifically, my 6D has not seen the light of day as every time, I reach for the 5D4 instead. So, the 6D is definitely going to get sold.

My current birding setup is for my 500/4 II on one 7D2 and the 100-400 II on the other.

If I get a 1DX II, then it will be paired with the 500/4 II and my 5D4 with the 100-400 II, or vice versa.

Or should I get a second 5D4? I kinda want to finally get a 1D body but basically, I'm looking for people's opinions on a 1DX II vs. a second 5D4. Cost differential is not a major concern.

Did anyone who sold their 7D2s for a full frame regret losing the reach?

Thanks!

Sam

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I would get a second mk4 Have them both set up the same way and buy a 1.4 tele converter for reach. Saves from learning a new layout of buttons and no lose of reach.

I'm a bit on the cheap side sometimes, but not all the time. I have a 5d4 and a 7d2 and like the combination. The money saving move is to sell the 6d and one of the 7d2's, but if I had the money, I'd be very tempted to do what you are thinking and make the 1dx2 my second body. I really like having a camera with high fps for birds and sports.

If you are in a financial space where it makes sense to dump all the old toys and replace with a 1DxII, then what other decision could possibly compete? 1Dx and 5D4 would cover all the basis save one.

ie; You do lose any platform for any EF-S lenses you have.

Thanks for the inputs! I think I am going to try to sell the 6D and one of my 7D2s and do my birding with the 5D4 and the other 7D2 for now. I might wait a bit to see which way to go, and whether a 7D3 is around the corner! :D

As someone that is not in the market for a 1Dx, that's what I am shooting now; 5D4 and a 7D2. I get to keep my 18-135mm too :)

I gave my 18-135mm to my dad, but he says he's not using it. I might snag it back, but I'm finding these same two bodies cover everything I want to shoot fairly well.

I got rid of a 7Dii and replaced it with a 5d4. Couldn’t be happier with my decision. I shot an event with the two as opposed to the 5d4 and the 7d2 and I am spewing I did not do it earlier. To have identical files to PP is a pleasure. Plus the 5d4 files look a LOT better than the 7d2 photos IMO for what I do.

Having said that, I would love to have the 1dx. I have never even used one. So given the opportunity I would definitely take a 1dx. Such a beast of a camera.
