I have both lenses, Canon has Metabones IV adapter, I love the native Sony lens. I mainly shoot portraits and was thinking about selling the Canon, because the Sony Focuses so much better on my A7riii. I havent done any head to head comparisons, but will I miss the extra stop of the Canon? I dont shoot low light at all, and I have the Sony 55 and 85 primes also. Was just asking for some opinions.

Current Equipment list: 5d/30d/24-105 f4/L IS USM / 70-200f4L/ Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR DI II/sigma 10-20/canon 50 1.4

Since you don't shoot low light the only benefit of f/2.8 is shallower depth-of-field, which makes it a personal question: do you like shallow depth-of-field enough that 1-stop of aperture is preferable to better focusing and a smaller/lighter setup?

Considering that you also have the primes, I would say sell the Canon and use the primes when you want the shallowest depth-of-field. Or sell both and get the Sony 70-200 f/2.8.

I find that my old Canon 70-200 f/2.8IS mk1 had this gorgeous dreamy bokeh. When I upgraded to the 70-200 f/2.8mk2 the bokeh turned contrasty in some situations on the nervous side. I do still like the Canon mk2 though.

I've seen some of the most undesirable bokeh with extreme nervous backgrounds with the G Master 70-200 f/2.8 when there's a lot of foliage. If your a dedicated sony user you really do not have that much alternative but the Gmaster 70-200 f/2.8 for portraits unless your willing to shoot primes. You can consider the Sigma 135 f/1.8 ART when it hits the streets for the dream cream bokeh.

For versatility get the FE 70-200 f/4 for fast paced stuff but otherwise I wouldn't bother with the f/4 for portrait work if you have fast long primes.
