I’m using a 5K iMac instead of a PC, but I agree it does make the editing experience much nicer.

Just picked one up and the detail is pretty insane.

I think Retina similar screens are great. So somewhere around 1440p (qHD). There are 4K 15" laptops and wow, just why? If higher resolution, make sure it is not at 30Hz or my Lenovo at work has 48Hz at 4k and I think it is very bad to look at. Nothing is buttery smooth.

I will now buy https://www.amazon.com …ds=Dell+U2518D+UltraSharp (external link)
It is 60Hz and 1440p in 25" is like retina.

A note about older programs and Windows 10- by default Windows allows the program to adjust scaling. I have found the best scaling (for large crisp text and properly sized icons/buttons) is to go to the compatibility tab in the program’s properties settings. Then check “Over-ride high dpi scaling. Scaling performed by:” and select “system(enhanced)”

I asked before many times but i couldn't get any clear answer, i still use my old monitor which is Apple Cinema Display 30", it is a matte or anti glare, it gives me nice results, using it only with Apple Mac desktop, so i want to replace it for cable management, but i still don't know if many current and new monitors are way better than that, not sure if 4K will be better, i don't like reflections so glossy isn't an option, but i doubt if the color gamut in those new monitors are higher and better than my 30" ACD and can have better rendition and gray scale grading smooth, in short terms, i wanted a monitor for absolution quality of images and no gaming and not interested in videos and not for Windows, only Mac, and i will buy another color calibration device to help, only size of 30" and up but less than 34" anyway.

Tareq, your Apple display is pretty old and I think a high quality modern monitor would definitely be better. 4K resolution is awesome if you get at least a 32" size monitor. Your Apple monitor also does not have 100% Adobe RGB (AFAIK). If you have the money, I would consider a professional grade 32" 4K monitor with wide gamut/100% Adobe RGB (search for photo editing monitors, there are only a few choices that match these specs). The Benq SW320 that I use is such a monitor, I love it, and it's much cheaper (though still not cheap) than similar spec models from other makers (e.g., NEC PA322UHD-BK-2, Eizo). These monitors have matte screens because they're targeted to photo and video editing.

I think your Apple monitor was impressive in its day, like ten years ago, but there are better monitors now.

Sure, even by then Eizo was the best, i have an old monitor of Eizo i bought almost same time after that Apple monitor, but it is 22" only and i couldn't afford another Eizo monitor, but now after 10 years i really want to replace my Apple monitor, i want a Matte one so it is better for me in photos editing, but i feel most monitors these days are more designed for gaming and not fully Matte and maybe not that good enough for color wide gamut, and i know my Apple monitor isn't 100% Adobe RGB but still amazing, so i doubt if some of new monitors could be better than if not designed for photos editing.

I keep looking ay Dell, Benq and LG models and i feel they are almost there, but i don't want reviews about how great they are for viewing and gaming and also clarity while for editing it is not much better than 10 years old monitor, i have 4K TV 65" and for viewing photos or videos it is stunning, but if i look at photos on this TV and my apple Cinema display i can tell about colors quality, and definitely i can't depend on TV for photos quality unless i print first, or check out the photos on many computers.

I do have an old laptop of Mac which is Macbook Pro, Matte screen too, it has almost same quality or reliable as my Apple display, just i don't know if it is good enough compared to many laptops nowadays, i do have new laptop PC i bought with Matte screen, not calibrated, and the photos look different than on my apple Cinema, just i try to go with that and not care about photos quality or colors, but i still think i need a monitor for colors quality and if possible also details, and definitely i will buy at size 30" - 32", not less and not more.

I prefer members here if they are using new models monitors such as 4K ones, because i know they are using it for photography here and they can tell the difference, i have cameras with nice resolution or big files such as Sony A7r and Hasselblad H4D-60mp, even with my 1DX files i want to have colors at best i can edit, so i will wait more and see what members are saying, if they got something of 27"/30" then it will tell me/us that we can depend on current monitors as we did in the past, in the past when i saw so many fashion TV photography section i can see many photographers are looking at Apple Display ones, long time i didn't watch that channel so i want to say that we want to keep that legacy of high quality monitors even now, definitely Eizo/NEC are top quality out there, then Apple Cinema came next or closer that time, are those from for example BenQ, Acer, ASUS, Samsung, LG, ..... are up for the task nowadays?

I wish if i can afford above $2000 then i will buy NEC definitely, but now i am putting my budget for a monitor to around $1000 with ease, but if i have to save little more then i am trying to keep it at maximum $1500, and because this thread is about 4k, is 4K good for editing or is it more about viewing and gaming?
