I recently picked up the Huawei P20 Pro to use as my new phone but also as a backup camera when i'm out shooting. Last night when Hollywood Vampires performed at Liseberg amusementpark here in Gothenburg they placed some serious camera restrictions in place. So i shot the concert with the phone from the audience and here are some of my results. Not bad for a phone..

I'm still impressed by how capable this phone camera is, it just keeps on delivering and delivering quality photos all the time. :)

impressive images, for a smartphone! I've been leaving my wide angle lens behind ever since I started using the OnePlus range of phones. Very usable images in good light
Loved the last 2

Thanks! yep it's a performer. The P20 Pro can produce some stunning shots to be a smartphone. I was not quite expecting this when i picked it up.

Here's a shot using the black and white sensor, it produces some really crisp shots.

Two more photos, one of a thunderstorm passing by over a local areana during sunset. The other from a random concert at a local amusementpark.

On a recent month-long trip through Italy, Switzerland and Austria, my wife became quite frustrated with (a) the quality of the 'snaps' she got from her Galaxy S5 and old Canon P&S plus (b) she complained about the number of leads, batteries and chargers she was lugging around for her phone, camera and laptop.

So I bought her the P20 Pro. I hoped that she would find she could take better photos but also that it could replace all three devices, at least when living out of suitcases.

So far, so brilliant. She is absolutely amazed at the picture quality but even happier with the ease of use. She leaves it on 'auto everything' and the camera has produced great results in all kinds of conditions. For the first time (she's 61yo), she is genuinely excited about a piece of technology. Apart from the superb camera, the phone side of things seems to be perfectly Ok for an occasional user and web browsing is easy, fast and legible.

All in all, a very worthwhile investment which has me wondering if I should get one myself.

Spencerphoto: That's a great story to hear from a real user experience out in the wild. It makes me happy to hear she's enjoying her new P20 Pro and that it managed to replace all three devices. :) you would probably be happy with one for yourself, it's like a pocket camera wrapped in a cellphone shell. Powerful yet easy to use for just about anything you throw at it.

Here are two recent shots, the sunset was shot in RAW, processed in Lightroom to pull back the exposure and make it nicer. It really preserved the whole gradient of the sunset.

This fine looking Pontiac Firebird was also shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom to give it a bit more punch. :)

Here are two single shot brackets (HDR), i have processed them from one RAW file shot with the P20 Pro to try to see how far i could push the raw files. Quite far to be a small phone sensor, i expected worse results than this.

Two more photos, one from a local park and the other of a abandoned crane. I have added some noise to reduce the digital look and feel.
