Okay, I’m probably the only one thinking about it, but watching the live event of President Trump meeting Kim Jong Un is horribly annoying because of the machine guns going off nearby.

Oh wait. Those are cameras.

Nikon, Canon: make a silent shutter option.

Photojournalists: stop making noise.

What are your thoughts?

The Canon 7D2 has a silent shutter setting. I'm sure other cameras have this setting as well.

Pretty much all do, I find it odd that the photo journalists rarely seem to implement them. No they are not completely silent, but the racket we hear is certainly not being created in "s" shutter mode.

Why do you care if no one running the event does? I truly don't see a problem. The event organizers might even prefer to have the noise, much like a Hollywood director might.

I’m sure that sound probably makes some people feel important and a bit like a movie/rock star.

I think it’s definitely distracting and makes hearing what people are saying darn near impossible sometimes since the video feed seems to be coming from the same area as the shutters.

In the future when mirrorless possibly becomes the default type of camera, we might find ourselves rarely hearing that at events.

Maybe its a recording played back by some of Trumps employees.

Surely if Trump had anything important to say he would have Tweeted it.

Canon/Nikon doesn't have a silent silent mode like a mirrorless option has.

My entire hobby of gear lust has temporarily been shifted into overload. Please be patient while my mind tries to get back onto the road to recovery. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause....

Technically they have a silent(er) shutter mode with a dampened mirror flap....but it isn't fully silent and it creates so much shutter lag that it's detrimental to use during an event where things are actively happening.

If I got this right,

Shutter sound is annoying.

Duplicate threads are not.

Yeah, but I actually acknowledged that before you posted this redundant information. You’re a bit late.

I don't get why they were machine gunning at two (mostly) stationary objects. I could get some bursts.. but it was pretty much one long continuous spray and pray and it was as annoying as hell when you realize there was like 10 photographers there - it wasn't 30-100 all doing different bursts.

JMHO. 4-10 of the same image, ok, but 300+ of the same image? geesh...

Or 4k video and use frame grabs.
