I decided to start shooting in 2016, after a few year hiatus. My Canon 1D4, 1D3 and 40D were old tech, so I bought I a 7D2. I was really unimpressed. I bought a Nikon D500 and 24-70/2.8E VR, and decided to sell my Canon gear and go full on Nikon.

I decided to start shooting professionally again, and decided to buy a D5. I was blown away by the AF, high ISO image quality and general responsiveness. I tried a 1Dx2, and loved the D5 for the above reasons over it.

I started shooting MLB, NFL and PAC12 football for a news agency and bought my second D5 in early 2017, and kept my D500 as a back up and third body. I've shot around 400,000 frames since then and still love the D5 for the initial reasons. One of my bodies has been in for a lens mount replacement after taking a few falls. I believe that the body was designed to give in this area rather than stress out the lens. Other than that - all good.

There are some tweaks I'd like to see on the next iteration of the D5, but I feel that it's the best body currently on the market for shooting sports.
