Have anybody else tested a7iii in studio and managed to sync strobes in 1/250s ?

My experience is that faster than 1/160s is too much, causing curtain to show on photos.
So far I have tried changing e-Front Curtain Shut. on/off (as mentioned in other forum), I also changed my Elinchrom strobes and transmitter to speed mode but no luck.

1/160s ain't bad, but ...

Hi kumpu, which Elinchrom lights are you using, and which Elinchrom transmitter are you using to trigger them?

Hi IrishK,

So far I have tried it with RX4, RX2 and Ranger Quadra with Transmitter Plus and Transmitter Speed in both normal and speed modes.

No matter which light/transmitter combo I used, or was it on normal or speed mode, 1/160s was fastest time without curtain to show on images.

I think I send a message to Sony and ask them about this.

Finally got reply from Sony.

From e-mail:
We do not support 3rd-party flashes and wireless triggers.

Operation with 3rd-party devices is not guaranteed, so, in this case what we can advise is to use Sony products, or get in-touch with the company who is making the flash/trigger.

So, they're dodging bullet just by saying they don't support 3rd party triggers.
Now, if I'm right there's no Sony-manufactured studio strobes or triggers but still their technical specs say 1/250s x-sync which doesn't work.

Probably have to get my hands on Elichrom HSS trigger for Sony and try that if it makes any difference.

I have Godox AD200 with Xpro-S trigger and use it with A7III. When I turn off HSS (using Sync button on trigger) the fastest shutter speed that can be selected in camera drops to 1/250s. In that setting there is no curtain is visible in picture no matter what flash power I set (I tried 1/1, 1/32 and 1/256 power so it works for both slow and fast flash durations). So X-Sync of 1/250s is not a lie.

So it might be the trigger after all.

Thanks jtra for info, now I really get my hands to Elinchrom HSS trigger.

I can get 1/250 (X-sync speed) with my Sony A7 IIIs and the Elinchrom Transmitter Plus.

This unit: https://tse2.mm.bing.net …vQLnxWDhiq50gHaFE&pid=Api (external link)

If you're looking to crack the X-sync speed, then you're going to require a Cactus or something similar for both the hotshoe and each and every individual strobe.

Hm, I use the same transmitter myself with A7iii and start to see curtain at 1/160s or faster.

So it must be some setting. IrishK, do you use e-Front Curtain Shut. On/Off ? Pre-Focus On/Off?
