CDMOOSE Cream of the Crop More info | Jun 17, 2018 07:35 | #4 I especially like the second image because of the way the two birds are posing. They sure are a nifty species. We have seen them on trips to SW Manitoba in the spring and they always seem too tropical looking to be out in the middle of the prairies. Al

Even though they usually spend the summer season here at the marsh. Which is late May up till early September. I wouldn't say there are lots of them, like a few dozen maybe in a very big marsh. There are only a few other places in Alberta where they spend the summer, but its certainly not a lot of places. They are also notoriously shy. I lay in the mud for half an hour before they wandered near me. The rest of the day I tried to get more shots of them on the ground, and couldn't get any more. I tried belly crawling and they would fly away before I could get close enough to even bother taking a shot. That's just the case; they are very spooky. However, a year ago in May, a couple of them dropped their guard and I got fairly good, very close shots of them. But that sure doesn't happen very often. Al

2n10 Cream of the Crop More info | Jun 19, 2018 23:00 | #7 Great captures. They definitely are spooky birds, but they also can let let their guard down fairly often. We get them in Western Nevada and they seem to come through with a few that hang around and then come back down on the return trip. I saw a couple hundred in a farmers field a couple of years ago. It was quite the sight.
