Spotted Salamander

I have used auto focus on this picture but yet it is fuzzie. I Is there any reason why this could be? I have done some other close ups shots of birds and they all seem kinda of fuzzy but sometimes they arent.

Welcome to the forum, I see this is your second post. Do you have just the center square as your focus or are you using all nine? There is sharp focus on the tail tips and branch, suggesting that the camera was focusing there. Post your full Exif data, so we can evaluate what went wrong. What lens and what mode the camera was in could tell a lot.

Here what I would suggest, bump up the iso to 200-400, this would allow you have faster shutter and allow the f-stop to increase. 1/60 of sec with that long lens (300mm) is far too slow, even with a tripod. Set custom function 04 to 1 (use exposure button to focus), 13 to 1 (set the multicontroller to directly set your focal point, then select the center square by pushing directly down on the controller). This will allow a more accurate method of focusing on your subject.

I would also switch to partial metering mode.

Thanks for attaching the jpeg. The only thing I can add to the advice above, is that custom white balance would 'cool' the warm glow down - if that's what you wanted. I like the look myself, looks like warm evening sun.
