Hi Guys, just a quick question to ask how are people getting on with this lens with either a canon 1.4 mkiii or 2x mkiii tc's.
I will be using it mostly on my 1DX mki
Will it still auto focus ? and will i lose much image quality ?
I have a 1.4 mkii tc, and 400mm F5.6, but find it a bit restricting without IS at slower shutter speeds, thats the only reason im contemplating buying the 100-400 mkii lens.
Thanks.

Little IQ loss for both TC's. I'm pretty sure the 2X will not AF. You need an F4 or less lens.

There seems to be some technological cliff between f/8 and f/11 for PDAF. Many older cameras which only officially support f/5.6 can actually PDAF at f/8 when tricked, albeit slowly and requiring good light and contrast, but I have never heard of f/11 optics successfully PDAF-ing in OVF mode with any Canon camera, at any speed, regardless of the amount of light and level of contrast to focus on. f/11 AF that worked well through the viewfinder would be a game-changer. I don't have any of the top-tier f/8 Canons, but the center point on the 7D2 can't even see when the lens is in focus, and just goes beyond it, and stops, even on stark B&W lines in the bright sun.

Of course, live view sensor AF works just dandy, if a little slow, at f/11.
