Me too. Bugs are usually plentiful in most places, so there will probably be good subject material around. But (for us anyway) the ice and snow has to go away first!

I'm with you. I'm in Pittsburgh (Go Pens!!!!), and winter is kinda long here although probably not as long as yours is.:-)

It's not helping that I've been watching/reading reviews about the Venus 25mm F/2.8 2.5x-5x, and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

Spring comes on March 21 officially. Then follows seven weeks of phony spring, with dirty snow and bald trees. Real spring arrives in early to mid-May. That's when the bugs return.

Interesting and kind of bizarre. So they just collide with the wire and impale themselves? And that two-dimensional-looking fly... peculiar. Excellent captures.

Archibald they're very prolific at the moment.
Here's an interesting (to me) storey with a video of their presence here. Dung beetles at Ross (external link)
The ground is seething with them.
When you're outside in evening here they're like little missiles flying around the place, and the sound of them clanging into things is quite dramatic.
It's as though they're blind and just fly headlong into oblivion.

The crows are having a field day on the ground and suspect they're helping themselves.

Yeah, interesting. We have something like that happening with June Bugs in late May and early June. They look a bit like your dung beetles and I think they are in the same beetle family. Like your bugs, they are dumb and fly haphazardly, especially towards lights at night.

Spring is not far away now for us in western France - life is returning slowly to the warmer parts of the garden when the sun is out. Yesterday I had a chance to photograph an Eristalis species of hoverfly - first insect of the year. Some bees and butterflies about as well, but they were so busy foraging I had no chance of finding a model to pose in the time I had.
